The Ramgarhia Youth Association (RYA) hosted a transformative event centered on self-care and emotional wellness at the Sikh Union on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Despite the challenges of the pandemic era, the RYA persisted in its mission to prioritize mental health within the community.

Among the esteemed guests at the function was Westlands MP Tim Wanyoyi, represented by Westlands Constituency Manager Ben Mwonyoyo, alongside Erick Kuchio and former nominated MP Carolyne Amuyunzu.

As a subcommittee of the East African Ramgarhia Board, the largest Sikh Institution in East Africa by membership, the RYA has been a pivotal force for over three decades. It stands as the first Youth Association of any parent body in Kenya, reflecting its pioneering spirit in addressing contemporary issues.

The event marked a significant milestone in the RYA’s commitment to fostering dialogue on mental health, a topic often relegated to the sidelines. Recognizing the importance of emotional well-being and self-care in today’s fast-paced world, the RYA took the initiative to provide a platform for open discussion and reflection.

Collaborating with seasoned professionals in psychology, Kirti Dixit and Navneet Sura, the RYA curated a series of engaging activities aimed at destigmatizing mental health concerns and promoting holistic wellness. Participants were encouraged to explore the intricate connection between mind and body, practice mindfulness techniques, and equip themselves with practical strategies to actively manage their emotional well-being.

The event served as a beacon of hope, breaking down barriers of silence and shame surrounding mental health issues. Through candid conversations and interactive sessions, attendees gained valuable insights into recognizing, addressing, and overcoming challenges related to mental well-being.
