Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi this morning while accompanied with the CAS Health Dr Rashid Abdi Aman, Aga Khan National Council for Kenya Shamira Dostmohamed, CEO Aga Khan University Hospital Rashid Khalani ,Karura MCA Kamau Thuo, Parklands MCA Stephen Ndegwa and the Kangemi MCA Hamisi Maleya officially opened a free eye and medical screening camp at City Park as a commemoration of Ismaili Civic Day.
The Aga Khan Hospital University, the Aga Khan National Council, City Eye Clinic and Diamond Trust bank are conducting the two- day medical camp targeting Westlands residents from Parklands and City Park.
Notably, the camp activities include eye screening, retinal screening for diabetics, blood pressure check, dental screening, body mass index check, nutrition counselling as well as blood donation drive.
Hon Tim Wanyonyi, MP Westlands Constituency, emphasised the importance of building local capacity of Kenyan hospitals to carry out intricate but vital procedures.
“Many patients have been travelling outside the country for specialised care and with the kind of investment the Aga Khan Hospital is making, I am sure we already have homegrown solutions and patients will no longer travel abroad to seek care,” Wanyonyi said.
On his part, Dr Rashid Aman, CAS Ministry of Health, reiterated the role played by medical camps to point out ailments before they are fully blown.
“Medical camps are very critical because they are indicators of what is happening in our society. Through them, we are able to identify health threats that we may not be aware of and initiate management care when still manageable,” said Rashid.
Meanwhile, the Aga Khan University Hospital, CEO Rashid Khalani spoke of the institutions growth in providing quality and accessible health care across Kenya and the world.
